Storybooth: Katherine Miller and Hannah Wilson

Recorded at the Meyerhoff Schorlarship Program's Twentieth Anniversary Research Symposium and Celebration
"[The Meyerhoff Scholarship Program] means, basically, to me, that no matter what background you come from, or what sort of experience you've ever had before, that everyone in every position can do something great through science or research regardless of race or socioeconomic status. And that's just really everything that the program stands for- success and diversity." watch it

Population Dynamics: Interspecific Competition

Mentioned as a sample report on the 2009 course webpage for MATH 481 at UMBC
ABSTRACT: We first present a model of a two populations, each competing for the same resources. We will show the conditions under which this system is unstable, and then introduce a predator under those same conditions. Then we will be able to find a set of coefficients which will result in stability. In this way, we will show that the introduction of a predator into an unstable system of two competing populations can produce a stable system. Lastly we will examine the system of two competing species and a predator without any assumptions about the preference of the predator or how much it benefits from preying upon each species. The material explored in this project is heavily influenced by the work of Parish and Saila and Cramer and May. read it | download LaTeX source
